My bullet journal is my life. It’s my planner, my diary, my mood tracker. It keeps me sane and productive. The reason I chose to start a bullet journal was because I couldn’t find a diary that worked for me. The wonderful thing about bullet journals is that you can design them to suit yourself. You choose the layout and the contents. I’m going to take you through how I design my journal and maybe it will inspire you to start your own!

Firstly, I start by creating a yearly log. This is where I set out each month in days and write down all my big yearly events such as holidays, weddings and birthdays. These are events that I have planned months in advance or that come round every year. I also add in events throughout the year that pop up months in advance and then refer back to them when creating my monthly log.

The monthly log is two pages. The first page is a long list of the dates and days where I write down all the plans for the month and add items in if they’re weeks in advance. This is great because I can see all of my events in one place and so I don’t double book or overload myself with things to do. The second page is my habit tracker, to-do list and budget. My habit tracker is where I keep track of things I want to make sure I’m doing such as exercise. The to-do list is not like a daily to-do list but more for big projects. The budget is so I know how much I can spend each week.

Finally, there’s my weekly log. My weekly log is where I keep track of things happening each day and at what time. I have the times down the left side of the planner and then the days set out in line. I keep Saturday and Sunday smaller as I don’t have as many time-dependent events. I also keep track of my weekly income and expenses on the weekly log page too.

Bullet journals don’t need to be beautiful writing and inspiring pictures, they just need to be functional! So if you’ve been considering starting one, I’d definitely recommend getting stuck in and work out what helps you to live your life more fully.
