Social media is huge right now.
The marketing capabilities of social media are being explored in detail.
Whether that’s targeted ads, market research or finding your ideal clients (a real buzz phrase).
The truth is, social media is a great place to find people because at its heart it’s supposed to be about human connection.
Whether it’s really about that anymore is a conversation for another day.
So it’s entirely possible to find your audience on social media (well almost but I’ll address this later).
Here are some tips to find your ideal clients on social media:
First, you have to know which social media to use (I actually wrote another article on this, check it out here).
Once you’ve worked out which social media to focus on you’ll have to work within the boundaries of each social.
If you’re using Instagram, a really useful technique is to find the niche hashtags they’re using. Research them and use similar hashtags and follow those hashtags.
Across every social media, it’s beneficial to follow pages and accounts your ideal client is likely to follow e.g. inspirational accounts or authorities in the area and go through the people commenting and follow and comment on their posts
Facebook and LinkedIn groups are good for finding big groups of similar people, you can use these groups to advertise yourself if they allow or go through and connect individually with people
If you do this, you’re sure to be finding the right audience.
BUT (and it’s a big but)… you have to be sure your audience is actually on social media. There are still markets where social media is just not the best way to find clients and networking events (digital or in-person) may still be a better option. Or even other options!
But social media is a good place to start as most people are on there in some form or another.
